Developed together with SALEWA athletes who regularly train in cold, wet environments, our warm, wicking and highly breathable Ortles Polartec Wool Highloft Full-Zip Hoody is designed to provide targeted, lightweight insulation and moisture management for winter mountaineering, ice climbing or ski mountaineering. It’s the ideal mid layer for high-intensity, stop-and-go-activity in the most severe weather. Key to its technical performance is Polartec Wool – a fabric that is exclusive to Salewa in partnership Polartec. It uses bi-component knit technology to combine merino wool and synthetic fibres in a hybrid construction. Wool offers increased comfort by retaining insulation and breathability even when wet. Its absorbent nature wicks moisture vapour away from your skin and base layers to expand and evaporate more quickly. The synthetic fibres add greater durability, shape retention and faster drying times – offering increased comfort for alpine use. You get a single fabric with the characteristics of multiple layers and massive warmth for the weight. In addition, wool has natural odour fighting characteristics. At the sides and sleeves, we use a lighter weight Polarlite wool blend fleece with a smooth outer surface and brushed grid interior, in accordance with the SALEWA body mapping system, for additional breathability and enhanced durability. With a tailored hood, and ergonomic sleeves and shoulders for a clean, athletic fit, comfortable stretch cuffs and a stretch binding hem to seal in warmth. This hoody also stows down super small into its integrated compression pouch to disappear inside your pack.
